Summertime is meant to take a break. Whether you take a family vacation, enjoy a weekend getaway at the beach or spend more time outside at home, it’s a great way to slow down and recharge.
But the lazy days of summer can add up to a lot more work – or at least it seems like it when you want to rest. That can show up as more laundry, more cleaning, more heat and humidity, and all of that needs to be managed in order to maintain order.
By all means, take some time for yourself this summer, but try to stay on top of these must-do seasonal chores.
Keep Up With Cleaning the Floors
Heavier foot traffic in the summer leads to dirtier floors, which means more cleaning. Manage the extra work by using essential oils and baking soda to revive carpets and rugs. Before you do, use a broom or a window squeegee to remove pet hair, dust and more.
Restore Sparkle to Windows
It won’t be at the top of your list, but cleaning windows when the weather is warmer is actually better because they dry quickly. Remove screens and wash them with soap and water. Clear any dust and cobwebs around the outside of the windows.
Manage More Laundry
Summer most likely means you’re washing more clothes, everything from play clothes, yard work clothes, swimsuits, towels and more. Cut down on energy use and give your laundry a natural freshness by drying it outside, or use wool dryer balls to reduce drying time in the dryer.
Give Your Bathroom Some Extra Attention
Heat and humidity can take a toll in your bathroom by boosting the likelihood of mold and bacteria growth. Run the exhaust fan while you shower, then include natural cleaners to keep mold, mildew and soap scum away. (We will also use natural cleaners upon request!)
Flip Your Mattress
Clean and flip your mattresses in the summer and winter to help keep dust mites under control. Sprinkle a refresh powder on the top, let it stand about 10 minutes and vacuum. Turn the mattress over, and repeat the same process on the other side.
